Sunday Story - Beyond Twopointsix

Youngest Child's and my shortish story Woolfe and McClaw- The Great Eggscape is gaining some interest and some lovely illustrations from readers.

While we have great fun thinking up the adventures and hope that one day we will see it adorning bookshelves, we want this to be a space where stories can make a difference. Because, for me, creating Woolfe and McClaw did amazing things for my wellbeing and really did make a difference.

This week's Sunday Story is a follow up to the recent 2.6 charity event where people did sporty and not so sporty things to raise money for good causes. Our not so sporty thing was to bake gingerbread and write poetry for a charity close to our heart, Dad's Rock. Dad's Rock is an Edinburgh based charity supporting young people (and their parents) with a range of activities. You can find more about them here.  Our 2.6 poem is at the end of this blog - I hope you like it!

We know that people still want to help others in their communities, whether through some donation of money and/or time. We also know that some of the smaller charities will be feeling squeezed because of the Lockdown and their futures under significant strain with the impact of social distancing for some time to come. And most importantly we know that our children will have lots to deal with as we emerge from Lockdown.

With all of this in mind, we thought that Woolfe and McClaw could help to raise money for a charity that will be able to support children, ideally through creativity, to deal with their emotions, build their resilience and strengthen their mental health during and after this period of Lockdown.

Would you be willing to donate to a good cause for reading one of our Woolfe and McClaw chapters?

Which organisation (s) should we approach to team up with?

Please get in touch below or email me at Woolfeandmcclaw@outlook.com and let me know your thoughts. In the meantime, here's that poem I mentioned.

Enjoy!

Alex

Twenty-Six Lines – 2.6 Challenge 2020 for Dad’sRock

Apparently an abecedarius is a lyrical poem

But is also acrostic in the way that its going.

Charity is the cause that I want to cheer

Dad’s Rock, in particular, just to be clear.

Every week we learn how to play, how to sing

Fantastic tuition to us novices they bring

Great fun for the kids and parents alike

How cool to strum or pick up the mike.

It has really helped my daughter and me

Just to be part of this community,

Kind-hearted people coming together

Learning to play, whatever the weather.

Mums can also be part of the gang

No exclusion in case you were wondering.

O M G!  how we have had to adapt

Playing together then playing apart

Quite tricky at first but eventually

Realize the power of new technology.

So whatever charity you choose to support

Two point six, twenty-six or more

Unusual challenges, or run of the mill

Very worthwhile your efforts are still

Welcome by many and will clearly go far.

Xylophone*, singing, drums, bass, or guitar

You make some noise and some new friends

Zoom zoom everybody we don’t want this to end.

*Xylophone isn’t strictly on the syllabus yet but with your help….!

Introducing Woolfe and McClaw...

Right, let's get cracking. Some of you may have noticed our domain name is Woolfe and McClaw. Long story short, youngest child and I invented Woolfe and McClaw, the eponymous crimefighting duo whose first adventure we unveil in a short story called The Great Eggscape. It is a pun filled adventure in which Dave Woolfe, a veteran Alsatian detective and his new apprentice, Brian McClaw, a ginger Tomcat are brought in to solve an eggsplosively charged egg robbery. The Great Eggscape has 8 Chapters and we are going to release a chapter a week (unless you pay the ransom to stop crimes against literature). We have an idea what Dave and Brian might look like but we would really love bored or budding illustrators to come up with possible drawings for the characters and the story as they develop and the story unfolds. Post your drawings in the comments on this blog or email them to WoolfeandMcClaw@outlook.com We can't promise you Grayson Perry Art Club fame......yet. We will, of cours

Woolfe and McClaw - The Invest-eggation continues....

Last time Woolfe and McClaw began their investigation and spoke to the many chickens on Foghorn Farm. Not many pictures last week, so I resorted to giving it a go myself. Thanks to Sadie (9) for her digital picture of Henrietta Hensworth. Please keep them coming everyone. In my last post, I floated the idea of Woolfe and McClaw being more than just a little bit of fun, and to see if we could do some real good.  After some searching and following up on some recommendations we've decided we would like to support the good work of Place2be .  Place2be provides support in schools to children who are struggling with their mental health, whether through the pressures of playground politics or stresses at home.  They enable children to use creative outlets and we thought that the aims and methods of Place2be.  To coincide with #mentalhealthawarenessweek next week they are encouraging us all to get involved with their #sparkasmile campaign . Woolfe and McClaw are going to get involved..

Woolfe and McClaw - The egg -citing finale

So here we are. Nearly at the end. But so many unsolved clues. How will Dave and Brian piece the puzzle together and still get home in time for tea?! Will the chickens come home to roost? Has the sly fox managed to escape again? And will Dave have enough mints to get him through? Well if wasn't for one key eye witness, the villain or villains might have got away with it.....Do you think you know whodunnit?  Chapter 8 – Eggs-posed. The agents close in. Back at CSA, Dave and Brian grabbed a beer and sat in front of the white board piecing together the evidence and the clues so far. Moments later the phone rang. “Hello, is that Dave Woolfe” said the voice at the other end. “Yeh, who’s this?” said Dave a little gruffly. “Never mind who I am, do you want some intel on the robbery?” (Intel is short for intelligence – not the good at maths and reading kind, but the information kind). “I’m all ears” smiled Dave as he flicked his Panama hat off by raising his ears up. “I think I saw what
