Sunday Story - Beyond Twopointsix

Youngest Child's and my shortish story Woolfe and McClaw- The Great Eggscape is gaining some interest and some lovely illustrations from readers.

While we have great fun thinking up the adventures and hope that one day we will see it adorning bookshelves, we want this to be a space where stories can make a difference. Because, for me, creating Woolfe and McClaw did amazing things for my wellbeing and really did make a difference.

This week's Sunday Story is a follow up to the recent 2.6 charity event where people did sporty and not so sporty things to raise money for good causes. Our not so sporty thing was to bake gingerbread and write poetry for a charity close to our heart, Dad's Rock. Dad's Rock is an Edinburgh based charity supporting young people (and their parents) with a range of activities. You can find more about them here.  Our 2.6 poem is at the end of this blog - I hope you like it!

We know that people still want to help others in their communities, whether through some donation of money and/or time. We also know that some of the smaller charities will be feeling squeezed because of the Lockdown and their futures under significant strain with the impact of social distancing for some time to come. And most importantly we know that our children will have lots to deal with as we emerge from Lockdown.

With all of this in mind, we thought that Woolfe and McClaw could help to raise money for a charity that will be able to support children, ideally through creativity, to deal with their emotions, build their resilience and strengthen their mental health during and after this period of Lockdown.

Would you be willing to donate to a good cause for reading one of our Woolfe and McClaw chapters?

Which organisation (s) should we approach to team up with?

Please get in touch below or email me at Woolfeandmcclaw@outlook.com and let me know your thoughts. In the meantime, here's that poem I mentioned.

Enjoy!

Alex

Twenty-Six Lines – 2.6 Challenge 2020 for Dad’sRock

Apparently an abecedarius is a lyrical poem

But is also acrostic in the way that its going.

Charity is the cause that I want to cheer

Dad’s Rock, in particular, just to be clear.

Every week we learn how to play, how to sing

Fantastic tuition to us novices they bring

Great fun for the kids and parents alike

How cool to strum or pick up the mike.

It has really helped my daughter and me

Just to be part of this community,

Kind-hearted people coming together

Learning to play, whatever the weather.

Mums can also be part of the gang

No exclusion in case you were wondering.

O M G!  how we have had to adapt

Playing together then playing apart

Quite tricky at first but eventually

Realize the power of new technology.

So whatever charity you choose to support

Two point six, twenty-six or more

Unusual challenges, or run of the mill

Very worthwhile your efforts are still

Welcome by many and will clearly go far.

Xylophone*, singing, drums, bass, or guitar

You make some noise and some new friends

Zoom zoom everybody we don’t want this to end.

*Xylophone isn’t strictly on the syllabus yet but with your help….!

Woole and McClaw - Invest-eggation over - case closed

So did you guess whodunnit? I won't spoil it if you haven't been following the egg-citing weekly goings on at Foghorn Farm, you can read the whole story below . Now that we have reached the end of the Great Eggscape, I thought it might be fun to think how we could bring the story to life. If you could pick actors to play the characters who would you choose? I was thinking Jason Statham or Idris Elba for Woolfe, and what about Sanjeev Kohli or Martin Compston playing McClaw?? And who would make a great Frank Fox, Henrietta Hensworth or Sebastian Shuttlecock...? Obviously it will up to Pixar or Disney to decide, but please retweet with your ideas! Woolfe and McClaw are now off for a well earned rest. Lockdown is being lifted so where will their adventures take them next.....? Woolfe & McClaw: The Great Eggscape     WARNING: This story contains eggs-crutiating egg puns!   Chapter 1 – Agents scramble to the rescue   The phone rang. In his eagerness,...

Well hello there......

Hi, I’m Alex.    Just over a year ago I was hospitalised with sepsis.  It knocked me for six and forced me to rethink my life priorities. My recuperation gave me a new perspective and a realisation that I had been given the gift of time. You can read my fuller reflections here: https://epichr.co.uk/2019/12/09/adventblogs-its-time/ . When I emerged from hospital I was dealing with a complete change in outlook (no more high powered job for me) so my youngest child* decided that I should become an awesome author, and we set about writing a book.   I have to say that the process of collaborating with youngest child gave me so much joy, as well really aiding my rehabilitation, and boosting my mental health. 'Stories matter' is a way for me to share the stories we create together and at the same time to try to do a bit of good for others. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and excited to see where this journey takes us. *  Creative...

Woolfe and McClaw - Chapter 4

This week we are getting to the half way stage in our story. We would love you to submit more of your pictures to bring the words to life. Talking of pictures we have been drawn to the brilliant Grayson's Art Club on Channel 4. Armed with only 3 felt tips and a sheet of A4, I had a go at the 'View from my window' challenge. Surprisingly I wasn't picked! Woolfe and McClaw deserve to be represented by some of the considerable drawing talent that is out there. Take my latest effort. This is Bobby Bacon -looks more like he's wearing a onesie! So please, please keep your drawings coming in, and give Woolfe and McClaw the illustrations they deserve. Now, where were we? Last time Agents Dave Woolfe and Brian McClaw were invest-eggating the egg robbery at Foghorn Farm. They had interviewed the chickens, the sheep, the Bacons as well as Pumpkin and Kye Stables and found not so much as a dicky bird. In Chapter 4, Dave and Brian begin to piece together what few clues they have...
